I couldn't agree with you more about being more green with our prison in the U.S. We throw away so much money on crimials giving them more luxury then most people have now a days. But instead throwing up solar panels just for the prisons we should just set up huge tents outside for them to live in. A warden out in New Mexico does is and he started up the chain gang again. To me that is the best way to go green. We have to go green with everything considering they technology to do it with.I believe the East coast is far behind with this unlike the west coast.

infranet. it would seem we are on the same wave-length.

after seeing van jones speak a few months ago, i called for prisons to be included in the potential green economy boom:

http://prisonphotography.wordpress.com/2008/12/01/van-jones-prisoner-training-and-the-green-collar-economy/

in addition, just this week i featured the prison moss project at cedar creek correctional center:

http://prisonphotography.wordpress.com/2009/03/08/prison-moss-project/

it is funny that society seems more receptive to talking about prisons in terms of environmental sustainability, when they haven't previously been interested in economic, social or moral sustainability?

also, last month in a topic related to disenfranchised, but not incarcerated, youth i lamented the budget shortfall at the california conservation corps - paradoxically, a program model perfectly suited to the fiscal manipulations of stimulus?

meanwhile van jones is tipped for a position in obama's team, which is a huge surprise to me.

"Green" prisons is the absolute and total wrong direction. The only green thing to do is have LESS prisons.
